Welcome to the new website for The Wyoming Coalition for the Homeless (WCH). The site is currently under construction, so some pages may not be up and running quite yet. Thank you for visiting, and come back often to see what WCH is up to!
WCH is an all volunteer non-profit organization working for and with the homeless in Cheyenne, Wyoming. WCH relies on your donations as well as grants from foundations and corporations for funding. Your tax deductable donations of cash and in-kind items are needed year round and are accepted at the Welcome Mat Day Center, located at 907 Campbell Avenue.
The Welcome Mat Day Center is WCH's primary location and houses the only day center servicing the homeless in Cheyenne. It is open from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Monday thru Saturday and holidays, and 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. Services will be limited on Saturday, June 8th, when WCH's annual fundraiser, Walk In My Shoes is held.
WCH has also acquired a 2nd building, The Richards Center, which is currently being renovated. When complete, The Richards Center will house an education and training center, Art from the Streets gallery and studio, classrooms for job and life skills classes, a computer lab, Look Your Best for Success clothing room, and a pre-school for homeless children.
Volunteers are always needed for a variety of projects. These projects are suitable for school groups, church groups, clubs and individuals. Visit our How to Help page to find out more information on volunteer opportunities at WCH.
People Helping People
The Wyoming Coalition for the Homeless is grateful to have the opportunity to support the COMEA shelter in their time of need.
On Friday, September 6, the WCH coordinated efforts to transfer 40 homeless men and women from COMEA's night shelter to
The Richard's Center located at 4700 Ocean Loop in Cheyenne, WY.
COMEA will undergo a massive fumigation and decontamination effort to remove bed bugs from their facility at 1504 Stinson Avenue
in Cheyenne. The COMEA shelter will re-open no later than September 12. Dinner will not be provided at The Richard's Center,
nor will medical services be offered.
Those in need can obtain dinner from the Salvation Army and find a Cheyenne transit bus to transport them to the facility on
Ocean Loop. The Richard's Center will be open for overnight stay from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
WCH, it's volunteers and volunteer Board of Directors, believes strongly in supporting
those in need and in supporting other community organizations that exist to serve those in need. It is an honor to
have the ability to help - this is what "community" is all about.
